        PGOSA MAY ACTIVITIES 

 

 


The PGOSA Table will be set up Friday mornings, starting May 4th, at the Picnic shelter in the Parksville Community Park. Drop-In slo-pitch ball, bocce and horseshoes all start at Nine. The season's first Pancake Brunch and Games Day is May 11th.

A number of Activities take a break between May and September. They include Badminton, Pickleball, Games Afternoon and Ladies Luncheon. 5-Pin Bowling, Sunday Brunch and Volleyball are scheduled for May.

DUES INCREASE – Members at the April Annual General Meeting approved an increase in the membership fee, effective January 2013, to $15. Big Thanks to Peter Kucey for continuing as President. Also to Stan Franklin and the Singles for coordinating the "Annual Picnic In The Park" with assistance on the grill from Massey Matsuda and helpers. Thanks go to Georgina McGee for being our Sunshine Lady for so many years. Pat Davies will be taking over.

FIVE-PIN BOWLING - Two dates – Thursday the 10th and 24th at Sunset Lanes in Parksville. Games start at 1:30 pm. $10:50 for two games; Shoes, an extra $2. If more than 25 play, the cost is less. Call Bea Stark 250-248-8488.

PANCAKE BRUNCH & GAMES DAY – First of the season on Friday the 11th. Drop-in Slo-Pitch, Bocce, Horseshoes and Golf Pitching start at 9 am and the pancakes at about 10:30. Guests must be accompanied by a Member. $3.

MOTHER’S DAY SUNDAY BRUNCH - 10 am on the 13th at Thalassa’s, Qualicum Memorial Golf Club. Full Brunch $21.95. Call Bernice Diakow 250-248-0480 by the 6th. It is filling up quickly.

CYCLINGPgosa Member Sheri Farinha announces a "Protect Our Coast Cycling Event" to create awareness of potential oil spills from the proposed northern BC pipeline. It will take place from Campbell River to Victoria, arriving in Parksville at the Community Park Gazebo May 19th at 9 am. She invites all cyclists to join her on a ride to the Qualicum Beach Farmer's Market on Veterans Way. Regular rides - 9:30 am starts; Monday and Wednesday Pgosa Riders from Oceanside Arena, Hilda Emery 250-468-5779; from Parksville Community Centre, “Slo-Mos” Sunday and Tuesday, Ed Wilson 250-248-7280 or Gilles Gratton 250-586-5055; "The Turtles" is for new riders, call Gilles.

ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT - Friday the 25th at the Arrowsmith Golf and Country Club. The putting contest, for bragging rights and a prize, is at Noon, with the golfing at 1 pm on a scrambled start. Mixed four-somes play in a best-ball format. Dinner of chicken or steak is at about Six. Golf and Dinner is $60, Golf only is $33.50 and Dinner only is $26.50. Tickets are available from the Pgosa Table or from a number of Members. 85 golfers needed. Contact Al Grier 250-248-1285.

MINI-GOLF - This annual event, planned for Thursday the 31st, requires an organizer (Chairperson). Please call Peter Kucey at 250-752-0103.

RV CAMPJune 12th to 15th at Pacific Playground, Black Creek. RV Sites, Cabins and Tenting available on daily or weekly rates. Book directly with Pacific Playgrounds at 1-877-239-560, or www.pacificplaygrounds.com    Check-in on Tuesday, golf Wednesday with a Potluck dinner that evening. Pancake Brunch on the Friday. Day-trippers are welcome. A sign-up board is available daily for those wishing to organize an activity for the group.
